This provides short biographies for some of the notable people identified within these pages.

In the earlier half of the nineteenth century, Camden Town was ‘modern’ with new houses, large enough for the Victorian families, and transport by the railways and trams .

While some were born in Camden Town and some died in Camden Town, the majority stayed only for a period of their lives – as people still move around as their families and economies change.

Camden Town was a place of transition rather than, for example Hampstead, Westminster or Kensington, a place of final success, or the escape that was sought from the confines of Somers Town or Stepney.
